Sunday 18th December - Matthewes Cup, Lyttleton Harbour

The origins of this race date back to race 1877 when Fuch Ballach won a canoe race held on Lyttleton Harbour, paddling a craft owned by R.H. Matthewes - so the trophy is named after the winning boat owner, not the actual winner!  Sometime in the late 1960's the descendents of the original winner donated the Matthewes Trophy to the club and a decision was made to race annually in a closed handicap race for all competitors.  Therefore anyone racing has a chance of winning.

This is a great excuse for a blast out before Christmas.

Open to Surfskis and Kayaks only, with PFD and compulsory gear requirements andn minimum bouyancy.

Registration is 8.00am

More Details to follow on this page and the Arawa Facebook event.

In 2017, the finish line will be at the Pier on New Brighton Beach in Christchurch.
